The Farm Bill is up for reauthorization. Tell your members of Congress to increase funding organic agriculture research!
Why This Matters
Organic farming fosters healthier soil, safer working conditions for farmers, and healthier food for consumers.
The Organic Agriculture and Research Act has been introduced into Congress and is gaining co-sponsors fast. It stands a chance of moving ahead and even being included in the Farm Bill, which is up for reauthorization this year.
American farmers are falling behind in the growing organic industry. Organic food now accounts for more than 5 percent of total food sales, but the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) only spends about .01 percent of its budget on researching organic farming annually.
What You Can Do
Ask your member of Congress to co-sponsor the bill and push for organic research to be funded in the reauthorization of the Farm Bill!
