Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Sierra Club New York City Group honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by reposting his Letter from Birmingham City Jail. Dr. King was a prolific author; as many of his letters, sermons, and writings have been published and will be remembered for years to come. Below is one of his most famous and often quoted writings. In this letter, Dr. King states: “we are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” He suggests that “one is morally bound to resist unjust laws…an unjust law is no law at all.” Here is the letter:

May we consider the truth and wisdom of Dr. King’s words.

Respectfully and in PEACE, Catherine Skopic,

Chair, Sierra Club New York City Group
