SPEAKER BIOS:
DR. JUDITH WEISis a Professor Emerita of Biological Sciences at Rutgers University, Newark. Her research focuses on estuarine ecology and ecotoxicology, and she has published over 250 refereed scientific papers, as well as books for the general public (such as Marine Pollution: What Everyone Needs to Know). She is on the editorial board for BioScience, is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), has been on advisory committees for USEPA, NOAA  and currently chairs the Science Advisory Board of NJ DEP. She served as President of American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS).
KARL PALMQUIST is an environmental advocate, science communicator and biologist living in New York. He received his BA from Swarthmore College and is receiving his PhD from Rockefeller University. Karl has authored or co-authored numerous scientific papers and given presentations at scientific society meetings. His research focuses on how cells interact with their physical and chemical surroundings, and how this influences their fate and function. He is involved with several Sierra Club committees on both the local, state, and national levels, as well as the 350NYC Media Task Force.
ANDREA REYESis Chair of the NYC Fair Trade Coalition. She is a fair trade advocate, educator, and small business owner. She is the Chair of the NYC Fair Trade Coalition, a network of small ethical business owners and advocates. She is also the founder of A. Bernadette, a fair trade fashion brand in Uganda which hosts educational study abroad programs. Lastly, she teaches fashion marketing, international trade, and business development classes at LIM College and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
