Just a few weeks ago Governor Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation put forward a key proposal that would phase out coal by 2020 and put the dirtiest, most dangerous and most inefficient power plants on a clear pathway to retirement. Now we need to make sure the rule is strengthened to ensure that retiring coal plants are replaced with clean energy not more dirty fuels like fracked gas, or biomass.
This proposal has the opportunity to set a national example of how to responsibly retire our dirtiest and most inefficient power plants, and help stop Trump’s pro-polluter agenda of bailing out dirty, failing coal plants. New York is holding three public hearings on the proposed regulation, and we need to pack the house at each of them to make sure the voices for a just and fair clean energy future are louder than those of the dirty fuel industries.
Join us to speak out in support of phasing out coal and replacing it with clean energy, not dirty fracked gas plants.
